Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson Contribute $1 Million to Los Angeles Wildfire Relief
Actors Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson have stepped up to support wildfire relief efforts in Los Angeles with a generous donation of $1 million. This contribution aims to assist both the victims affected by the devastating fires and the first responders who bravely battled the flames engulfing Southern California in January.
In an Instagram post shared on Friday, the couple expressed their concern for the communities impacted by the fires, specifically mentioning the Altadena and Palisades areas. They acknowledged the extensive challenges these communities face as they work to recover. “We are so very grateful for the First Responders and Firefighters, from all over, who fought with all they had in order to save homes and people,” they wrote, highlighting the dedication of those who responded to the crisis.
Hanks and Wilson emphasized the importance of looking forward, stating, “Now we must all move forward to what is next for our city, communities and neighbors.” Their donation is intended to support the following organizations: the Motion Picture and Television Fund, the Los Angeles Fire Foundation, the SAG-AFTRA Foundation Disaster Relief Fund, the American Red Cross, and MusiCares. In their message, they also encouraged others who are able to contribute to do so.
This charitable gesture coincides with the announcement from FireAid regarding the allocation of $50 million in grants to Southern California charities following the FireAid Benefit Concert. The initial phase of funding will address immediate wildfire relief, while subsequent grants will focus on rebuilding efforts in affected areas.
According to data from CalFire, the wildfires that swept through Los Angeles in 2025 resulted in the burning of 57,660 acres, destruction of 16,249 structures, and the tragic loss of at least 29 lives. A report from AccuWeather estimates the overall damages and economic losses from these wildfires to exceed $250 billion.
