Tom Hardy and Paddy Considine Discuss Upcoming Crime Drama “MobLand”
Actors Tom Hardy and Paddy Considine recently opened up about their latest project, the crime drama series titled “MobLand.” In an interview with “Extra’s” Jenny Taft, the duo shared their motivations for joining the series.
Tom Hardy expressed his desire to step into the character of Harry, stating that after several years of portraying superheroes, he wanted to return to a more grounded role. “I wanted to come back after doing seven years of superheroes with something that was a bit more gritty and back to, I suppose, swearing. I just wanted to swear,” he remarked.
He elaborated on his character, describing Harry as a “consigliere” or a diplomat rather than a typical action-oriented gangster. Hardy found the concept of exploring diplomatic relations within a gangster narrative particularly intriguing.
Paddy Considine revealed that one of the primary factors that attracted him to the project was the opportunity to collaborate with Hardy over an extended period. He was quickly drawn in when he heard that iconic actors like Tom, Pierce Brosnan, and Helen Mirren, along with renowned director Guy Ritchie, were involved. “I just thought, ‘Well, you don’t walk away from that, to begin with,’” he said.
Paddy agreed to take on the role of Kevin with the understanding that his character would undergo significant development throughout the series. Both actors shared their admiration for their esteemed co-stars, Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren.
Hardy reflected on his history with Brosnan, noting that they both attended the same drama school. He described Pierce as “extremely graceful” and “brilliant,” praising his ability to convey a wide range of emotions. Hardy also commended Mirren for her remarkable versatility, stating, “It’s an honor to work with people who are that talented and have showed that for so long.”
Paddy, who plays the son of Brosnan and Mirren, recounted a humorous experience that arose during filming. He shared a playful anecdote about how an initially innocent greeting turned into a day filled with kisses on the lips from Mirren. “I remember we shot a scene and I went in, came in the house, and I go, ‘Hello, Mom,’ and I give her a kiss on the cheek. After we did the take, she came over to me and said, ‘I think you should kiss me on the lips,’” he recounted with a smile.
Tom added to the laughter, joking about the playful dynamic on set, “She went to Dave from HR and said, ‘He keeps kissing me on the lips. I don’t want him to.’”
Now available for streaming on Paramount+, “MobLand” promises to be a captivating series that delves deep into the complexities of character relationships within a gritty narrative.
