Tori Amos Unveils New Album Alongside Children’s Book

Tori Amos has unexpectedly launched a new album coinciding with the release of her forthcoming children’s book, Tori and the Muses.

The album, titled The Music of Tori and the Muses, became available on streaming platforms on February 28, just ahead of the book’s launch on March 4. Collaborating once more with a number of her trusted musical associates—John Philip Shenale, Matt Chamberlain, Jon Evans, Mark Hawley, and Ash Soan—Amos delivers a collection of nine tracks.

In a post on Instagram, Amos expressed her excitement for audiences to experience the album while enjoying her new narrative. “We are so excited for all of you to hear it as you read the new book,” she shared.

Tori and the Muses, illustrated by Demelsa Haughton, follows a young artist named Tori. The plot centers on her struggle with her father’s pressure for her to prepare for a music recital, which leads her to a fantastical journey with the 11 Muses who have been guiding her artistic endeavors. According to the book’s description, “the Muses remind Tori that inspiration is everywhere, and perhaps in helping others find their own Muses she may better understand herself.”

Amos has indicated that her own childhood creative struggles inspired the book, aiming to ignite a similar spark in others. In a video statement earlier this year, she noted, “Sometimes people will say to me, ‘But I try to go out and find the muses you talk about.’ But you don’t want to find the ones I’m talking about. I’m interested in yours. I want to know how you get inspired. They will be uniquely your own, and I believe that deep, deep in my heart that they exist for everybody. Trust your muses.”

In support of Tori and the Muses, Amos is set to embark on a brief book tour starting on March 2 in New York City, with additional appearances in Baltimore, Naperville, Illinois, Corte Madera, California, and Los Angeles.
