Tori Spelling Reflects on Her Surprising Fame from Scream 2

Tori Spelling recently opened up about her unexpected rise to fame, particularly after her brief appearance in the horror movie Scream 2. During a podcast episode on March 19, Spelling discussed her experiences with co-star Jamie Kennedy, expressing a mix of gratitude and surprise over the attention she received, including landing the cover of Rolling Stone.

After expressing appreciation to Kennedy for the silver rings he gave to the cast as wrap gifts, Spelling playfully inquired whether he could help her secure a return in the fictional franchise’s spin-off, Stab.

The Stab Universe and Fan Theories

In the Stab series, which is a film within the Scream universe, Spelling portrays Sidney Prescott, played by Neve Campbell. Reflecting on her character’s endurance in the franchise despite taking a break from the narrative, she mused about potential ways for her to reprise the role. “I played Sidney Prescott. She doesn’t die. I mean, she took one movie off in the franchise, but she’s back,” she noted.

Kennedy remarked on the untapped potential of the Stab world, to which Spelling acknowledged the thriving fan theories circulating online, especially on platforms like Reddit.

Nostalgic Memories and the Rolling Stone Shoot

Spelling fondly reminisced about the time Scream 2 cast members were brought together for a photoshoot with Rolling Stone as part of a feature titled “The Girls of Scream.” Kennedy recalled how the franchise’s popularity grew steadily, noting the milestone of Spelling appearing on the magazine’s cover.

“Oh my gosh, can we talk about that for a second?” Spelling exclaimed, revealing that it was a topic she hadn’t discussed with other Scream cast members before. She described the experience as “a little crazy,” recounting how she was approached for the cover despite her relatively minor role in the film.

“When Scream 2 was coming out, Rolling Stone wanted the females of the film to be featured, and they asked me to be in it. I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, are you f—— kidding me?’” she said, expressing her excitement.

The lengthy photoshoot, which lasted from day into night, involved various group and individual shots themed around iconic horror moments. Spelling specifically recalled her portrayal inspired by the famous shower scene in Psycho.

Cover Controversy and Support from Co-Stars

Despite her enthusiasm, Spelling admitted that scheduling conflicts led to her being spotlighted alone on the cover, where she appeared topless with distinctive red lipstick. “I just remember showing up at the Scream 2 premiere with my head hanging down because I was so ashamed,” she reflected, feeling that her co-stars deserved equal recognition for their contributions.

Nonetheless, Spelling highlighted the support she received from her fellow actresses, including Neve Campbell, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Courteney Cox, and Jada Pinkett Smith, who rallied behind her during this notable moment in her career.
