A gynecologist has stepped down from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario following a public health alert regarding the cleanliness of her clinic’s instruments. Dr. Esther Park, who had her medical license limited to office-based practices last December, will cease practicing effective this Wednesday.
The resignation follows investigations that were initiated after two public complaints concerning the standard of care provided by Dr. Park. According to the notice on the CPSO’s website, she has committed to never reapply for a medical license in Ontario or any other province, bringing a close to the ongoing investigations related to her practice.
In February, Toronto Public Health alerted around 2,500 of Dr. Park’s patients about possible exposure to blood-borne viruses, including HIV, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C. This warning stemmed from serious concerns over her clinic’s failure to adequately clean, disinfect, and sterilize medical instruments.
