In the latest episode of Tracker, Colter finds himself navigating the treacherous terrain of snowy mountains in search of his missing sisters, but things quickly spiral into unexpected chaos.

Only Colter would embark on a mission to locate two lost sisters and become embroiled in a bizarre and sinister ritual, all in an isolated area with minimal resources—just a single firearm and a vision to save them.

Season 2, Episode 16 of Tracker delivered another thrilling installment, in line with the show’s reputation for unexpected twists and gripping drama.

Tracker has carved a niche for itself by avoiding the conventional paths typical of procedural dramas. Instead of standard missing person cases, it dives into unique and sometimes dark storylines that set it apart from the usual fare on television.

This episode could have been dedicated solely to showcasing Colter’s survival skills in an unforgiving snowy landscape, but instead took an unexpected turn when he and his old friend Roger found the sisters sooner than anticipated.

While it would have been exciting to witness more of Colter’s struggle against the elements, viewers were swiftly thrust into a narrative that left them piecing together events without the usual context provided in earlier episodes. Typically, we are shown the moments leading to a character’s disappearance, but here, that foundation was notably absent.

Initially, as far as Colter and Roger understood, the girls were simply missing after a snowboarding accident. However, when they located Shelly, it was clear that her condition was dire. The threat of hypothermia is grave, with its ability to deceive the mind into feeling warmth while one is, in fact, freezing.

This episode served as a reminder of similar chilling scenes from other shows where characters found themselves disoriented in harsh conditions. Although Shelly wasn’t at the edge of death, her situation was precarious, and more time could have led to devastating consequences.

In a classic horror scenario, Roger’s decision to find help while leaving Colter with the sisters foreshadowed impending tension. The moment they split up was a telltale sign that trouble was brewing.

What followed was both surprising and unsettling: Colter stumbled upon a seemingly hospitable cabin inhabited by three individuals who appeared too eager to assist, raising immediate red flags about their intentions.

I sensed that there was something dubious about Rufus, Dash, and Amelia from the outset. Their overly accommodating behavior felt like a trap waiting to spring.

As the narrative unfolded, it became evident that Colter’s predicament was more complicated than merely rescuing the sisters. After struggling with various challenges, he began to discover that the mountains hid not just physical perils but sinister schemes as well.

Colter’s skills as a tracker and survivalist were tested as he bravely navigated the dangers surrounding him while trying to keep Roger and the sisters safe. His knowledge proved invaluable when he had to haul Roger through the snow without missing a beat, showcasing his strength and determination.

Amidst the chaos, the show kept its pattern of portraying unfortunate deaths, with an elderly couple caught in a dangerous web of events. As Colter pursued the girls, he faced unpredictable scenarios that deviated from the usual rescue plots viewers might expect.

That said, the lack of motivation for the antagonists became a glaring issue, rendering parts of the story difficult to follow. Colter was isolated from his team, making him vulnerable in a way that was atypical for the character.

The backstory of Amelia offered a glimpse into her harrowing experience with the criminal trio; however, the narrative fell short when contextual details regarding the trio’s motivations remained vague. We needed more insight into their actions, which felt more like sadistic cruelty without a clear rationale.

The sisters’ search for answers in the snowy abyss turned into a nightmare, as they faced horrific trials that went far beyond their initial adventurous outing.

After their reunion, it was evident that Amelia had shifted from the woman who had fled to the cabin for help to a shell of her former self, exemplifying the psychological toll of her experience.

Colter’s eventual confrontation with the sinister Father and his twisted crew led to inevitable chaos, but the show smartly avoided the typical resolution, leaving audiences in suspense. Colter’s final showdown came swiftly, requiring him to rely on quick thinking and courage once again.

This episode served as a reminder of the series’ darker themes, but I felt it didn’t resonate as deeply as prior installments. While Technically well-executed, the story left loose threads, particularly with Reenie’s emerging subplot hinting at possible trouble ahead.

Tracker Notes

Bobby’s return was a pleasant surprise, but one can’t help but wonder why Randy was still leading the charge. His presence offers new dynamics; will he become a permanent fixture alongside Colter? Fans might hope for more interactions between these characters, as they develop the plot further.

As excitement builds for the remaining episodes, it’s unclear how the overarching mystery involving the Shaw family will be resolved, a thread that has lingered since the season’s premiere.

Despite the episode’s disjointed elements, fans can agree on one thing: Tracker is never short of surprises. Join the conversation and share your thoughts on this thrilling hour.

You can catch Tracker on CBS at 8/7c on Sundays.
