Netflix to Release Documentary on Andrea Kimi Antonelli
A trailer for an upcoming documentary focused on notable Formula 1 talent Andrea Kimi Antonelli has been unveiled, with the premiere set for next week.
Titled ‘The Seat,’ the documentary will debut on Netflix on Monday, May 5, and spans 45 minutes, chronicling Antonelli’s journey over the past year as he prepared for his ascent into Formula 1.
Last August, Mercedes confirmed that Antonelli would succeed Lewis Hamilton as a driver for the 2025 season, while the 18-year-old was competing in his rookie F2 season.
“Being a part of the Mercedes F1 Team is a dream come true,” said Antonelli, who is now in the midst of his inaugural season, currently sitting in sixth place in the standings.
“Toto, the team, and I maintained constant communication throughout this journey. ‘The Seat’ encapsulates this experience from beginning to end. I’m eager for everyone to join us in streaming the documentary on Netflix.”
The trailer, shared by Mercedes’ partner WhatsApp, provides sneak peeks into the documentary, featuring exclusive behind-the-scenes footage that includes the internal selection process and Antonelli’s practice debut at Monza, offering a personal look into his life.
“Choosing Kimi as our driver for 2025 was a significant decision, as documented in ‘The Seat’,” stated Toto Wolff, the head of Mercedes F1, who is seen in the trailer sharing the promotion news with Antonelli.
“WhatsApp played a critical role, serving as the engine that kept our communications smooth and private. This allowed our team to concentrate on Kimi’s development and discuss his progress, culminating in our final decision.”
“We’re thrilled to provide F1 fans across the globe with a unique perspective on the process that led to this crucial moment in our team’s history.”
The documentary also highlights the pivotal occasion when Antonelli made his grand prix debut in Melbourne earlier this year, and has been branded by Netflix as “the biggest driver change in F1 history.”
