The high school student who recently worked out with Travis Kelce in Florida is expressing his enthusiasm about the experience, stating it was “amazing.” This encounter has been a highlight for Jazz Lewis, the son of renowned NFL player Jamal Lewis.
Jazz shared his excitement in a conversation shortly after the workout, emphasizing the positive impact of meeting the veteran tight end with the Kansas City Chiefs. He described how Kelce provided valuable insights that Jazz believes will enhance his performance on the field as he prepares for high school football this coming fall.
As a wide receiver for Chamblee Charter High School in Georgia, Jazz revealed that Kelce shared numerous tips on perfecting his route-running and overall athletic technique. “I got to learn,” Jazz remarked. “He gave me some tips on how to run better routes, smoother. And, yeah, it was nice.”
Jazz’s father, Jamal, indicated that his son’s workout opportunity was facilitated by Tony Villani, his former coach, who has been supportive in helping young athletes improve their skills during off days from school. Villani frequently invites young talent to train alongside NFL players who are preparing for the season.
Reflecting on his own experiences as a former NFL player, Jamal noted that being able to mentor younger athletes in a similar manner to how Kelce mentored Jazz is incredibly rewarding. He mentioned, “Later on, they’ll really cherish it.”
Prior to this training session, Jamal observed that Jazz was already “quick off the ball” and displayed “great hands.” However, with the new techniques learned from Kelce, Jazz is well-positioned to impress defensive backs in Georgia’s high school league when the season kicks off.
