Travis Scott Arrested in Paris Following Altercation
Renowned American rapper Travis Scott was taken into custody in Paris on Friday morning after an altercation with his bodyguard, according to local authorities. The incident occurred at the George V luxury hotel around 5 a.m. (11 p.m. ET on Thursday), prompting police intervention to diffuse the situation. A police spokesperson confirmed that Scott was arrested for “violence against another person.”
Scott, who was attending the men’s basketball semi-final of the Olympic Games where the United States triumphed over Serbia, faced additional legal scrutiny as the Paris prosecutor’s office reported that he had been detained for “violence against a security guard.”
The altercation reportedly escalated when the security guard attempted to intervene in the dispute between Scott and his bodyguard, leading to the rapper’s arrest. The situation is now under investigation by the authorities.
In response to the incident, a representative for Scott stated, “We are in direct communication with the local Parisian authorities to swiftly resolve this matter and will provide updates when appropriate.”
The artist, whose real name is Jacques Bermon Webster, had recently completed the European leg of his Circus Maximus tour, which included performances in various prominent venues, such as the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. His tour has garnered him significant acclaim, further establishing his presence in the music industry.
Scott has been recognized with multiple Grammy nominations, including for Best Rap Album for his 2023 project “Utopia.” However, his career has also been marred by legal troubles. In June, he was arrested in Miami-Dade County on charges of trespass and disorderly intoxication.
Perhaps most notably, Scott was involved in the tragic Astroworld Festival incident in 2021 that resulted in the deaths of ten attendees. Although he was cleared of criminal charges related to that event by the Houston District Attorney’s office, he continues to face several civil lawsuits initiated by the families of the victims.
