Kim Kardashian is set to witness the legal proceedings unfold in her long-awaited robbery case. Ten individuals accused of robbing her at gunpoint nearly a decade ago during Paris Fashion Week are going on trial today. Remarkably, one of the suspects has penned a book detailing the crime that shocked the world.
Time has allowed Yunice Abbas, one of the defendants, to reflect on his role in the incident and share his narrative in a novel that reveals the motivations behind targeting one of the globe’s most recognized celebrities.
In his book, Abbas recounts returning home to rest after the heist, only to find his wife challenging him about the robbery after she had seen news coverage. “This has you written all over it,” she reportedly said, highlighting the intensity of the situation. Additionally, Abbas expressed to a French media outlet that their primary goal was to execute a significant job.
Alongside his nine accomplices, Abbas is linked to a band of thieves dubbed the “Grandpa robbers,” a nickname stemming from their ages, which range from 60 to over 80 years.
Allegations suggest that some gang members impersonated police officers, forcefully entering Kim’s upscale apartment in October 2016. Armed and dangerous, they reportedly restrained Kardashian and made off with an impressive haul of stolen jewelry, including a diamond engagement ring that belonged to her then-husband, Kanye West. Kim emerged physically unharmed but experienced significant emotional trauma.
Just three months after the robbery, authorities managed to apprehend the alleged criminals, with five individuals facing charges for their direct involvement in the crime. Additional suspects are being accused of aiding and abetting.
The trial for the “Grandpa robbers” is set to commence in a Paris court this Monday, projected to continue for approximately three weeks. Kardashian is anticipated to take the stand as a key witness on May 13.
Abbas, along with his partner in crime, Aomar Ait Khedache, has admitted their involvement in the robbery. One suspect has unfortunately passed away recently, while another is dealing with severe dementia, raising questions about their ability to participate in the trial.
