Sarasota and Manatee counties are on alert as they face the impending threat of Tropical Storm Milton. Below is the latest information regarding this weather event.
Residents are urged to stay informed as Sarasota and Manatee counties brace for what could be another severe storm.
8:40 a.m.: Tropical Storm Milton Expected to Strengthen
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) reported at 8 a.m. that Tropical Storm Milton is gaining organization, with its current forecast path directing it toward the region between Sarasota and Tampa. However, various factors could still influence the storm’s final landfall location.
According to the NHC’s forecaster discussion, “While the track guidance is generally in good agreement on this scenario, there remains some spread in both the track and forward speed, so it is too early to specify which portions of the Florida Peninsula will see the most significant impacts.”
The forecast indicates uncertainty regarding the storm’s potential intensification, with predictions of it reaching anywhere from a Category 1 to Category 5 hurricane. The NHC currently estimates winds could reach 120 mph, categorizing it as a Category 3 upon landfall.
“However, this is lower than the intensity consensus, and an increase in strength would not be unexpected,” the NHC forecaster noted.
Regardless of the specific intensity, the forecast warns that a dangerous hurricane with life-threatening conditions is likely to affect parts of Florida’s west coast by midweek.
