On Friday, the Trump Administration launched a redesigned covid.gov website, asserting that the origin of Covid-19 is most likely linked to a laboratory leak in Wuhan. This new platform has taken a critical stance against Dr. Anthony Fauci and President Biden, alleging that the current administration engaged in “outright censorship” by collaborating with social media platforms to silence alternative viewpoints regarding the virus’s origins and treatment methods.
The website states, “Public health officials have frequently misled the American public with inconsistent messaging, impulsive actions, and a lack of transparency.” It goes further to describe how the federal government has marginalized alternative treatment options and downplayed theories like the lab leak assertion, labeling these actions as unethical attempts to influence the health decisions of Americans.
Additionally, the site claims, “When those tactics did not succeed, the Biden Administration turned to ‘outright censorship,’ coercing and colluding with major social media outlets to suppress any dissent related to Covid-19.”
Recent revelations from the “Twitter Files,” exposed after Elon Musk’s acquisition of the platform in late 2022, indicated that the Biden Administration put pressure on Twitter’s leadership to remove content it deemed to be Covid misinformation, especially posts expressing vaccine hesitancy. It has been reported that White House officials engaged in frequent consultations with Twitter executives on strategies to confront this type of content.
Earlier this year, Meta’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg mentioned in a conversation with Joe Rogan that the Biden Administration “basically pushed” Facebook and Instagram to censor posts they classified as Covid misinformation.
The revised website also criticizes Dr. Fauci and mainstream media for their efforts to undermine the lab leak hypothesis. In a section titled “The Origin,” it lists five arguments supporting the idea that the virus may have originated from a lab, including a claim about the coronavirus having a “biological characteristic that is not found in nature.“
