Trump Ends Secret Service Protection for Biden’s Children
WASHINGTON (AP) — In a surprising development, former President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he is terminating the Secret Service protection for Joe Biden’s adult children. This decision comes after Trump had previously extended their security to July as he prepared to exit the presidency in January.
On his social media platform, Trump expressed concern over the number of agents assigned to Hunter Biden, who is currently in South Africa, claiming there are 18 agents dedicated to his detail. He further mentioned that Ashley Biden is guarded by 13 agents and stated that she too “will be taken off the list.”
There has been no prompt response from Trump’s office regarding the decision.
Under federal law, former presidents and their spouses are entitled to lifetime Secret Service protection. However, the provision for their immediate family members who are over the age of 16 typically ends when the president leaves office. Both Trump and Biden opted to extend Secret Service details for their children for six months post-presidency.
During a visit to the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts on Monday afternoon, Trump was questioned about whether he would withdraw security for the former president’s son. In his response, Trump remarked, “Well, we have done that with many. I would say if there are 18 with Hunter Biden, that will be something I’ll look at this afternoon.” He admitted that this was a new issue for him.
“I’m going to take a look at that,” he added, indicating that he would review the matter further.
