President Trump Hosts Prayer Service During Holy Week

On the evening of April 16, 2025, President Donald Trump took part in a prayer service and dinner held at the White House as part of the Holy Week observances leading up to Easter Sunday. The event gathered faith leaders from various Christian denominations who listened as Trump discussed the significance of faith in governance and personal life.

During his address, Trump expressed his aspirations for the upcoming Easter, declaring, “This is really — I hope — going to be one of the great Easters ever, because we have something going that I don’t think this country has seen in 100 years. And as we gather with family and friends, we’ll not forget the true source of our joy and our strength: America has put our trust in God.” He emphasized the enduring motto of the nation, stating, “It will always be ‘In God We Trust.’ We will never change that.”

Trump reiterated his commitment to this phrase, remarking on a perceived movement to change it but firmly stating, “It won’t happen. We won’t let that happen. Can you imagine a movement to change that?”

The president also criticized past administrations for their lack of support for persecuted Christians worldwide, asserting that his administration takes this issue seriously. “We had nobody fighting for our Christians in other parts of the world, who were being so incredibly destroyed, killed, injured, hurt,” he lamented, noting that many lives were lost unjustly in modern times.

Additionally, Trump highlighted his administration’s efforts to combat anti-Christian bias within the United States, mentioning the establishment of a task force by the Justice Department aimed at addressing this issue. He also spoke about the creation of the White House Faith Office, which succeeded the former Office of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships.

“You don’t hear about that very much, but there is anti-Christian bias,” said Trump, underlining the need for vigilance in the current socio-political climate.

The evening also featured notable attendees, including Rev. Franklin Graham and Patty Morin, whose daughter’s tragic death at the hands of an undocumented immigrant became a significant topic during the previous election cycle. Earlier in the day, Morin had shared her story at a press briefing, and Trump acknowledged her presence during the dinner, expressing empathy for her loss.

As the Holy Week festivities continue, plans are in place for another prayer service on Holy Thursday, featuring faith leaders and staff from the White House. This event will include the performance of Christian hymns led by musicians affiliated with Liberty University, a well-known private Christian institution in Virginia.

Furthermore, the White House is set to celebrate Passover on Thursday evening, coinciding with the Jewish holiday, which began on April 12 and concludes on April 20.

Concluding his address, Trump conveyed a message of resilience and hope: “With God’s help we can overcome every challenge, triumph over every evil, and restore the spirit of faith in the United States for generations to come.” He reiterated his campaign slogan, stating, “We have a very simple slogan: ‘Make America Great Again,’ and that’s exactly what we’re doing.”
