CISA Welcomes New Leadership in Cybersecurity Amid Rising Threats
Mark Montgomery, who previously served as the executive director of the Cyberspace Solarium Commission, has expressed strong support for Sean Plankey’s recent appointment to a significant role within the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). In his remarks, Montgomery highlighted Plankey as an ideal choice, emphasizing the importance of fortifying defenses against the growing threats posed by nation-state actors, particularly from China.
Ari Schwartz, a former cybersecurity official during the Obama administration and current leader of the Cybersecurity Coalition, also weighed in on Plankey’s nomination. He pointed out the crucial function that the CISA director serves in steering the government’s cybersecurity initiatives, noting the value of Plankey’s knowledge and leadership skills demonstrated during his previous tenure in the Trump administration. Schwartz conveyed optimism about the future under Plankey’s leadership.
This nomination marks a pivotal moment in shaping Trump’s cybersecurity framework. It comes on the heels of the president’s selection of Sean Cairncross, a newcomer to the cybersecurity realm, for the position of national cyber director at the White House. Additionally, CISA recently appointed Karen Evans, a well-respected figure in the cybersecurity community, as the executive assistant director for cybersecurity, further solidifying the agency’s leadership team.
