Trump Endorses Cruz Ahead of Critical Texas Senate Debate
In the lead-up to a pivotal debate, former President Donald Trump publicly reaffirmed his support for Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) on Truth Social. This endorsement comes as Cruz prepares to face his Democratic challenger, Rep. Colin Allred (D-Texas), in a highly anticipated political showdown.
Trump’s comments were sharp, emphasizing the stark contrasts between the candidates on key issues. “Ted is one of the strongest Senators in the Country on Border Security, whereas his Opponent, Colin Allred, is a Radical Open Border Extremist, who will put our Country, and Safety, LAST,” Trump expressed in one post, further asserting that Cruz would prioritize both Texas and America. In another message, Trump declared, “Ted Cruz has my Complete and Total Endorsement – HE WILL NOT LET YOU DOWN!”
The race for Cruz’s Senate seat is particularly significant, as it may have substantial implications for the balance of power in the Senate. Recent polling data indicates that Cruz holds a narrow lead of 2.7 points over Allred, based on averages compiled by The Hill/Decision Desk HQ.
Trump further elaborated on his endorsement, noting its necessity due to the stakes involved in this election. “While I have Endorsed Ted, on numerous occasions, verbally, because of the Importance of the Race, and Ted’s Importance to the future of our Country, I thought the Endorsement should be memorialized in writing,” he remarked in a subsequent post.
As the campaign intensifies, Democrats appear to be gaining momentum. The Cook Political Report recently adjusted Texas’s Senate race status from “likely Republican” to “lean Republican,” hinting at possible shifting dynamics in voter sentiment favorable to Allred.
Pollster Brett Loyd expressed a sense of unpredictability regarding the race, suggesting that the notion of Texas being a solidly Republican state should not be taken for granted. “Anybody that says, ‘It just doesn’t happen in Texas’—it doesn’t happen until it does,” he noted, pointing to the potential for Allred to secure an unexpected victory.
The debate between Allred and Cruz is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday at WFAA Studios in Dallas and is expected to draw significant attention as both candidates articulate their visions for Texas’s future.
The Hill has sought to gather additional insights from the Allred campaign regarding their plans moving forward.
