Trump to Celebrate 100 Days in Office with Rally in Michigan
LANSING, Mich. — President Donald Trump is set to commemorate his first 100 days in office next week with a rally in Michigan, marking his return to the campaign trail since his inauguration earlier this year.
The event will take place in Macomb County, a region noted for its automotive significance, as confirmed by the White House press secretary. Trump will host the rally on Tuesday, shortly before reaching the symbolic milestone of 100 days in office.
“President Trump is looking forward to being back in Michigan next Tuesday for a rally to celebrate the FIRST 100 DAYS!” Karoline Leavitt stated in a recent social media post.
This rally occurs just one day prior to Trump’s 100th day, a period traditionally scrutinized by political analysts for assessing a president’s accomplishments in relation to their campaign objectives. Michigan, a pivotal battleground state, was instrumental in Trump’s electoral victory as he reclaimed territory from Democrats.
Since assuming office, Trump has limited his travel primarily to personal outings, with his only formal outing being a visit to disaster areas in North Carolina and California early in his administration, where he also held an event in Las Vegas to discuss tax reforms affecting tipping.
Looking ahead, Trump will make an international visit to attend the funeral of Pope Francis in Rome, signifying his first foreign trip since taking office.
Trump’s planned rally in Michigan follows recent collaborative discussions with the state’s governor, Gretchen Whitmer. Once a vocal critic, Whitmer has indicated her willingness to seek common ground during Trump’s second term.
One area that has drawn attention is the future of Selfridge Air National Guard Base. This location has raised concerns among Michigan lawmakers and Whitmer herself, especially regarding the phasing out of the A-10 aircraft currently stationed there. The base’s potential impact is particularly relevant to the planned rally location in Macomb County.
During an executive order signing at the Oval Office on April 9, Trump referenced Selfridge, expressing a desire to maintain the base’s effectiveness and operations. He conveyed optimism about achieving success in this regard alongside Whitmer.
Whitmer, who was acknowledged by Trump during the Oval Office event, later noted that her visit was unexpectedly high-profile, as reflected in a widely circulated photograph of her attempting to shield her face from cameras.
When questioned about whether Whitmer intends to join Trump at the Michigan rally, her spokesperson indicated there was no information available at this moment.
Alongside Whitmer, other Michigan officials have consistently advocated for the introduction of a new fighter mission to succeed the outgoing A-10 squadron at Selfridge.
In a letter sent to the Secretary of the Air Force during President Biden’s term, Whitmer reiterated her long-standing position, asserting that establishing a fighter mission at Selfridge represents the optimal course for Michigan, the Air Force, and national interests.
