President-elect Trump’s Upcoming Executive Orders on Immigration and Border Security
EXCLUSIVE: On the first day of his presidency, Donald Trump plans to implement a sweeping set of policies aimed at reshaping U.S. border and immigration strategies. Among these actions are the deployment of troops to the southern border and the designation of international drug cartels as Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTOs).
Sources indicate that Trump will sign nearly a dozen executive orders that emphasize robust border security measures, marking a stark pivot from the immigration policies of the Biden administration.
One of the key orders will mandate the resumption of border wall construction, which had largely ceased under Biden. This directive aims not only to restart physical barrier projects but also to eliminate certain parole policies that allowed significant numbers of migrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela to enter the U.S. More than 1.5 million individuals have reportedly benefited from these parole processes, including the usage of the CBP One app which facilitated their entry.
Migrant Protection Protocols to be Reinstituted
The forthcoming executive orders are expected to also reintroduce the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP), commonly referred to as the Remain-in-Mexico policy. This former Trump-era initiative required asylum seekers to remain in Mexico while their claims were processed, a measure aimed at reducing the number of individuals entering the U.S. and awaiting hearings in American cities.
Military Involvement in Border Security
Another impactful directive will involve deploying U.S. troops to the southern border, placing them under the command of U.S. Northern Command. This strategic planning emphasizes U.S. territorial integrity and aims to integrate military resources with federal law enforcement to enhance operational effectiveness. The Secretary of Defense will be tasked with providing a Unified Command Plan to support these initiatives.
According to insiders, this executive action is designed to underscore the administration’s commitment to safeguarding U.S. borders, with military forces playing a vital role in this effort.
Cartels Designated as National Security Threats
A particularly notable order will classify international criminal organizations, such as MS-13 and Tren de Aragua, as FTOs and Specially Designated Global Terrorists (SDGTs). This classification allows for targeted actions, including financial sanctions against these groups, deemed a significant national security threat due to their involvement in drug trafficking and violent crime.
The order will invoke the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, reflecting the administration’s approach to dealing with these organizations as quasi-governments that exacerbate criminal activity within the U.S.
These anticipated actions arrive amidst a protracted crisis at the southern border that has evolved since 2021, prompting Trump’s renewed focus on border security as a central aspect of his administration’s agenda. This approach signifies a commitment to deliver on campaign promises surrounding immigration reform and border security enhancement.
