Trump and X Resolve Legal Dispute Over Account Suspension
Former President Donald Trump and the company now known as X, previously Twitter, have reportedly concluded their legal battle concerning the suspension of Trump’s account in 2021. In a court filing noted by Bloomberg, legal representatives for both Trump and X requested the court to dismiss the ongoing case.
The lawsuit stemmed from Trump’s argument that his First Amendment rights were infringed when he was banned from the platform due to concerns over potential violence following the events of January 6, 2021, at the Capitol. Although a judge dismissed the case the following year, Trump proceeded with an appeal.
Since the lawsuit began, Twitter has undergone significant changes, having been acquired by Elon Musk and rebranded as X. Musk’s alignment with Trump has grown, particularly as the former president embarks on a new campaign for office.
The filing to dismiss the case appears to have emerged swiftly after Trump reached a settlement with Meta, the parent company of Facebook, over a similar matter. Meta agreed to pay Trump $25 million after suspending his Facebook account in 2021, highlighting a broader trend of legal challenges related to social media account suspensions faced by the former president during his time in office.
