Wathnan Racing’s Shadow Army is set to make a comeback today at Ripon following a disappointing outing in the Phoenix Stakes, with the race being broadcast live on Sky Sports Racing.
3.12 Ripon – Shadow Army Faces Strong Competition
Shadow Army has impressed as a highly regarded juvenile, consistently competing in prestigious Group One and Two races across England, Ireland, and France. In the Phoenix Stakes, he finished fourth, behind notable contenders Babouche and Whistlejacket, whose subsequent performances have further validated Shadow Army’s form. Today’s race provides a more favorable contest for him, and if he adapts well to Ripon’s undulating track, he is expected to perform strongly.
From an official ratings perspective, Soldier’s Heart emerges as the primary competitor, having delivered an outstanding performance at the same course and distance recently. Jockey Harry Davies retains the ride, bringing experience and proven results on this track. Another notable runner is Benevento, who made a strong debut by defeating a solid rival at Yarmouth and is currently under the guidance of AMO trainer Raphael E Freire.
3.35 Chepstow – Kalama Sunrise Pursues Further Improvement
Since transitioning to handicaps, Kalama Sunrise has shown remarkable progress, elevating her rating from 46 to 72, confirming her affinity for Chepstow. With a commendable record of three wins out of four starts at this venue, she is now facing an elevated challenge, particularly with David Probert stepping in as jockey.
Stockpyle, a half-brother to the distinguished Pyledriver, has garnered attention from trainers William Muir & Chris Grassick. After a significant victory at Chepstow in June, he has competed well at higher levels and returns here carrying the top weight. Fact Or Fable, a consistent presence at the track with eighteen runs, should not be overlooked due to his familiarity and successful history at Chepstow.
3.47 Ripon – Course Specialist Garden Oasis Returns
Garden Oasis demonstrates a strong affiliation with Ripon, where he has made twenty-two appearances, securing five of these in the current season, including two wins. His attachment to this course makes him a formidable candidate.
Major Partnership brings a high level of quality to the race with a rating of 101. After being sidelined since December 2023, his record when returning fresh presents a potential threat. Meanwhile, Padishakh has been treated as a promising contender, dropping in grades after encountering some misfortune in prior competitive races.
Best of the Rest
Fresh off a victory, Eartha will be mounted by Billy Garritty under the direction of Richard Fahey, going against Mademoiselle at Southwell (2.12). At Ripon, an exciting five-furlong sprint will feature Billy Loughnane riding High Velocity. Additionally, Mashadi, rated 84, will participate in a maiden race at Chepstow (4.45), with Ticktyboo poised to challenge.
