Tusshar Kapoor and Ektaa Kapoor: Balancing Family and Professional Lives
Tusshar Kapoor Reflects on the Dynamics of Collaboration with Sister Ektaa Kapoor
Tusshar Kapoor and Ektaa R Kapoor, siblings and prominent figures in the Indian film industry, have a long-standing history of collaboration, beginning with their work on the film Kucch To Hai in 2003. Their partnership has evolved over the years, resulting in several successful projects such as Kyaa Kool Hai Hum, Shor In The City, Shootout At Wadala, and The Dirty Picture. Their latest venture together is Dus June Kii Raat, which features Ektaa as one of the producers and is currently available for streaming on JioCinema.
In a recent interview, Tusshar opened up about the evolution of their professional relationship. He stated, “We’re very professional. Earlier when we were much younger and did films, we were probably on each other’s cases a lot. We used to argue a lot but we’ve a much better understanding today. We now know how to keep the personal and the professional lives separate. There’s no overlap between the two in that sense.” This shift highlights their growth not only as individuals but also as collaborators within the industry.
Interestingly, during the production of Dus June Kii Raat, Tusshar and Ektaa did not interact significantly. He mentioned that there was little opportunity for him to receive direct feedback from her regarding the project. “She was involved in the show but it’s actually produced by Vandana Films in collaboration with JioCinema. My sister is one of the associates for this show. She had her own inputs and her own part to play but she didn’t come in to be an active part of the show. In fact, I didn’t interact with her during the making at all,” he explained.
This lack of interaction can largely be attributed to their living arrangements. Tusshar noted that they do not reside in the same house, which limits their frequent exchanges. “I used to take her about her feedback and inputs from our creative head. We don’t even live in the same house, so we didn’t cross each other’s paths,” he shared. Their only meetings during the filming process occurred infrequently, such as during family gatherings, indicating a clear separation of their personal interactions from their professional undertakings.
The storyline of Dus June Kii Raat involves a man whose life is plagued by bad luck, intertwined with themes of superstition. While Ektaa Kapoor’s family is often viewed as superstitious—a notion she has previously refuted—Tusshar describes his own beliefs in relation to such themes. “I’m mildly and ritualistically superstitious. Before every film, I go to Tirupati Balaji but that’s more like faith than superstition,” he explained, highlighting his nuanced view on the matter.
Despite acknowledging his family’s traditions, Tusshar clarified that he does not rigidly adhere to specific beliefs. He remarked, “This time, I couldn’t make it there but took a vow that if it does well, I’ll go for a darshan. I’m not superstitious about pooja paths and dhaagas. I don’t indulge in that. My family traditionally believes in some amount of pooja paths and I’m a part of it, happily so, but I’m flexible.” This perspective reflects a blend of respect for tradition coupled with a personal approach to spirituality.
