Katie Piper Embarks on New Journey with Artificial Eye
Television presenter Katie Piper has announced her decision to explore the use of an “artificial eye” over 16 years after a horrific acid attack left her partially blind and with significant burns.
Piper, 41, known for her advocacy work for individuals with burns and disfigurement, recently shared a video that captured the moment she was fitted for a prosthetic eye.
In her Instagram post, she expressed, “After many years battling with my eye health, I’ve reached the end of the road somewhat, and the decision has been made to try a prosthetic eye shell.”
She further conveyed, “This marks the start of a journey to have an artificial eye, with an incredible medical team behind me. As always I’m incredibly grateful to all those in the NHS and private healthcare system for their talent and kindness.”
Piper is sharing her experience openly, stating, “I will share my journey, I’m hopeful and nervous about being able to tolerate it and would love to hear from any of you in the comments if you’ve been on this journey or have any advice.”
The former model’s life was drastically altered in March 2008 when her ex-boyfriend orchestrated an acid attack against her. Following the tragedy, Piper chose to relinquish her anonymity and created a Channel 4 documentary in 2009 titled *Katie: My Beautiful Face*.
Her commitment to helping others led to the establishment of the Katie Piper Foundation, which provides support for those affected by serious burns and scarring. For her significant contributions through the foundation, she was honored with an honorary doctorate from the Royal College of Surgeons.
In recognition of her charitable efforts and advocacy for burn survivors, Piper was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the Queen’s New Year Honours list in 2021. Currently, she also hosts *Katie Piper’s Breakfast Show* on ITV, continuing to inspire many with her resilience and dedication to improving the lives of others.
