Twin Sails Interactive, renowned for its work on Gloomhaven Digital, is emerging as a standalone indie game studio after parting ways with Asmodee Group.
This studio has made a name for itself with titles like Ember Knights, News Tower, Bloomtown: A Different Story, and Survival: Fountain of Youth.
With a strategic management buyout, Twin Sails has achieved full independence, granting it the flexibility needed to realize its growth aspirations.
The organizational structure of Twin Sails remains intact, retaining key personnel including CEO Nicolas Godement, Production Director Laurent Lichnewsky, and Marketing Director Adrien Rotondo.
“This marks an exciting new chapter for Twin Sails Interactive,” stated Godement. “Our experiences during our time with Asmodee have been invaluable, and we appreciate the collaboration that has shaped our journey. As a newly independent publisher, we are poised to pursue our ambitious vision for the future with renewed confidence.”
Thomas Koegler, CEO of Asmodee, expressed his support for Twin Sails’ new direction, stating, “We are proud to see Twin Sails Interactive embark on this new journey under the guidance of its dedicated management team. This transition signifies a thrilling new phase, promoting continuity while allowing both entities to excel in their respective fields. We anticipate Twin Sails Interactive will continue to innovate and provide players with fresh, engaging experiences, and we wish them a successful, creative journey filled with opportunities.”
A New Era for Twin Sails Interactive
Established in 2016 as Asmodee Digital, Twin Sails Interactive originally functioned as the video game division of Asmodee. While it is broadly recognized for adapting beloved tabletop games into digital formats, such as Terraforming Mars and Gloomhaven, Twin Sails has also successfully penetrated the independent gaming market with acclaimed releases like Ember Knights, Survival: Fountain of Youth, and News Tower.
With its new-found autonomy, Twin Sails Interactive is reaffirming its dedication to producing unique, high-quality gaming titles that deliver immersive experiences to players.
“At Twin Sails Interactive, we believe each game deserves specialized attention and expertise,” noted Lichnewsky. “That’s why we allocate a dedicated ‘Triforce’—comprising a producer, brand manager, and game designer—for each title. They collaborate closely with developers to refine the game’s creative vision, positioning in the market, and overall quality. From production oversight to porting, localization, and quality assurance, we are committed to providing polished, impactful experiences for players around the world.”
“We will continue to support creative games with strong visual identities and passionate development teams,” added Rotondo. “Our objective is to collaborate with our partner studios to establish enduring game brands that evolve through updates, new content, and additional titles.”
Looking Ahead
Bloomtown: A Different Story
Twin Sails Interactive is thrilled to announce that Bloomtown: A Different Story, a captivating monster-taming adventure released last year on Steam, will be coming to mobile platforms (iOS and Android) in the second quarter of 2025. This game’s endearing narrative blends adventurous gameplay with emotional storytelling, guiding players through a journey that emphasizes narrative choices, exploration, relationships, and monster battles.
News Tower
News Tower, the popular newsroom tycoon game currently on Steam, is scheduled to exit Early Access in fall 2025. Players will manage a media company set in 1930s New York City, taking on the challenge of transforming an ailing business into a thriving media empire. They’ll navigate tasks ranging from expanding their newsroom equipment to hiring personnel and determining which stories to publish, all while optimizing office space and ensuring vital resources are available.
Ember Knights
Following a successful launch on PC and Nintendo Switch, Ember Knights, an action-packed co-op roguelite, is set to debut on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in Spring 2025. Emphasizing frenetic action and diverse gameplay, Ember Knights is poised to broaden its reach and solidify its position within the roguelite genre.
Twin Sails Interactive is actively exploring new projects and collaborations. Developers interested in partnering can visit the Twin Sails website or follow the company on platforms such as X, Instagram, or Facebook for the latest updates.
