Tragic Vehicle Crash in New Mexico Claims Lives of Two Marines
The recent vehicle accident near Santa Teresa, New Mexico, has resulted in the tragic loss of two United States Marines. Lance Corporal Albert A. Aguilera, 22, from Riverside, California, and Lance Corporal Marcelino M. Gamino, 28, from Fresno, California, have been identified by the 1st Marine Division as the deceased service members involved in the incident.
According to a press release from the 1st Marine Division, the accident occurred on April 15 during a convoy movement while supporting Joint Task Force Southern Border operations. The incident is currently under investigation.
Both Aguilera and Gamino served as combat engineers, a role vital to the operations they were supporting. The press release indicated that another Marine was critically injured in the crash and is receiving medical treatment.
Details of the Incident
After the accident, the three Marines were transported to University Medical Hospital in El Paso, Texas. Unfortunately, both Aguilera and Gamino were pronounced dead upon arrival. The injured Marine is also affiliated with the 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, the same unit as the two deceased service members.
U.S. Marine Corps Lt. Col. Tyrone A. Barrion, commanding officer of the 1st Combat Engineer Battalion and Task Force Sapper, expressed deep sorrow over the loss, stating, “The loss of Lance Cpl. Aguilera and Lance Cpl. Gamino is deeply felt by all of us. I extend my heartfelt condolences and prayers to the families of our fallen brothers. Our top priority right now is to ensure that their families, and the Marines affected by their passing, are fully supported during this difficult time.”
Reactions to the Tragedy
Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth also shared his condolences, acknowledging the profound impact of the tragedy. In a statement on social media platform X, he remarked, “I am very saddened to learn of the tragic accident yesterday that took the lives of two of our nation’s heroes and seriously injured another. My heartfelt condolences and prayers are with them, their families, and the unit.”
