EUCLID, Ohio (WJW) — Law enforcement authorities have apprehended a man suspected of the murder of a 19-year-old in a road rage incident that escalated to gunfire on Interstate 480.
On Friday afternoon, officials from the U.S. Marshals‘ Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force confirmed the capture of Michael Sanchez Roman, 30, from Euclid. He is facing charges related to the aggravated murder of Johndiel Sanchez Rivera.
The incident occurred on February 1, when officers from Bedford Heights responded to reports of a disabled car on I-480 West, near the Aurora Road exit. Upon arrival, they discovered Rivera’s lifeless body, which had suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
Eyewitness footage captured by FOX 8 News revealed numerous bullet holes on the passenger side of the vehicle.
Authorities quickly identified Roman alongside 21-year-old Michael Gabriel Alvarado as key suspects in the case. Alvarado had been arrested by Bedford Heights police a few days earlier, on February 26.
Roman was located on Friday at a residence in the 1400 block of East 221st Street. Reports indicate he initially barricaded himself in the home with a 2-year-old child.
U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott emphasized the importance of compliance during arrest situations to ensure the safety of everyone involved. “The safest option for these fugitives during an arrest is to comply with our officers’ orders and then everyone involved, including the fugitive, our officers and the public, will be safe,” he stated. Fortunately, no one was harmed during the apprehension.
Authorities continue to encourage individuals with information regarding wanted fugitives to contact the task force at 1-866-4WANTED (1-866-492-6833) or submit a tip online. Anonymous tips are accepted, and there is a possibility of rewards for information leading to arrests.
