Two individuals lost their lives following separate avalanche incidents in the backcountry of Alberta. According to Stuart Brideaux from Alberta Health Services EMS, one victim perished after an avalanche occurrence near Lake Louise, while the other tragedy unfolded in Kananaskis Country on Friday afternoon.
An incident report available on Avalanche Canada’s website indicates that the two skiers, who were reportedly venturing “out of bounds” from the Lake Louise ski area, triggered an avalanche while attempting to return. During this incident, one skier was buried under approximately two meters of snow. The second skier managed to dig him out and attempted to administer first aid, but unfortunately, the first skier was later pronounced dead, as reported by Brideaux.
Dan Markham, communications director at the Lake Louise Ski Resort, noted that the avalanche struck outside the designated resort boundaries. Furthermore, Brideaux confirmed that later that same afternoon, another skier died near the Black Prince day use area located in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park.
