Tragic Shooting Claims Lives of Two Virginia Beach Police Officers
VIRGINIA BEACH — Authorities have confirmed that two police officers from Virginia Beach lost their lives following a shooting incident during a traffic stop late Friday night.
The second officer succumbed to their injuries on Saturday morning, as reported by Jody Saunders, a spokesperson for the Virginia Beach Police Department.
Very limited information has been made available regarding the specifics of the shooting or the identity of the individual or individuals involved in the incident.
The sequence of events began at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Friday near the intersection of Lynnhaven Parkway and Wendfield Drive, according to details shared by Saunders.
“As you can imagine, our officers and detectives are diligently working to piece together the details,” Saunders noted, highlighting the ongoing efforts of law enforcement.
At this point, authorities do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public, with Saunders confirming this information.
“We are unable to share much information at this time as this is still a very active investigation… We ask for your patience and understanding as we work to address this tragic event, notify affected parties, and mourn the loss of our officers,” the Virginia Beach Police Department stated in a post on X on Saturday morning.
A press briefing has been scheduled for 2:30 p.m., to be attended by Police Chief Paul Neudigate, Mayor Bobby Dyer, and other municipal officials.
