New Book Imprint Important Flowers Launches Under Sofia Coppola
Mack has unveiled a new publishing imprint called Important Flowers, which will be guided by the creative vision of filmmaker Sofia Coppola. This initiative follows Coppola’s successful collaboration with Mack on her monograph Archive. Based in London, Mack is recognized for its distinct catalogue of art and film-related publications, including a notable series of screenplays from the acclaimed studio A24.
In a statement reflecting on their partnership, Michael Mack expressed enthusiasm about the new imprint: “Our first collaboration with Sofia on her book Archive was a wonderful experience, and we are all thrilled by its global success. We’re delighted that Sofia is entrusting us with Important Flowers.”
The inaugural title from Important Flowers will be The Virgin Suicides, set to launch in April 2025 in celebration of the film’s upcoming 25th anniversary. This book will feature a collection of images captured by British photographer Corinne Day during the film’s production. Coppola shared her admiration for Day, stating, “I’m such a massive fan, so I was happy I got to meet her and be friends with her.” Coppola further emphasized the book’s intention, saying, “This book is really a tribute to her and a chance to share all these wonderful photos with people who might not be familiar with her work.”
In September 2025, Important Flowers will also debut Chanel Haute Couture, a substantial 450-page visual chronicle of the iconic fashion house and its designs. This volume will include a mix of Polaroids, runway photographs, and personal images taken by Coppola herself, who has shared her background as a former intern at Chanel under the legendary designer Karl Lagerfeld.
Coppola has ambitious plans for Important Flowers, indicating her desire to broaden its scope to include works by emerging photographers as well as reviving previously out-of-print titles. “I want to focus on making books with emerging photographers that I like and want to support. And maybe even reprint some old books I love that are out of print now,” she revealed in an interview with Vogue.
