University of Manitoba Enhances Security Following Assault Incident
The University of Manitoba has announced a significant increase in security measures at its student housing complex after a reported assault in the early hours of Friday. Authorities are responding to concerns for student safety in the wake of the incident.
According to police reports, an unknown individual entered a room at the housing facility on Dafoe Road around 4:45 a.m. and physically assaulted a female resident. Fortunately, the victim was able to fend off the attacker and call for assistance. She received medical care for her injuries and has since been reported to be in stable condition.
Law enforcement officials confirmed that the suspect fled the scene, and an active search is underway to locate them.

Constable Dani McKinnon emphasized the random nature of the attack, stating that it is being treated with utmost seriousness. “If you’re residing in these buildings, please ensure your doors are locked, keep your cell phones handy, and remain vigilant of your surroundings, especially during nighttime hours,” McKinnon advised.
As police continue their investigation, the description of the suspect has been released. They are believed to be between five-foot-ten and six feet tall, with unkempt facial hair and long, disheveled hair. At the time of the assault, the individual was wearing a black toque, a black jacket over a grey hooded sweater, along with potentially blue jeans, black shoes, and carrying a black and blue backpack.

She confirmed that these safety officers will now be stationed around the clock.
