U2 Celebrates 20 Years of “How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb” and Teases New Music
As U2 commemorates the 20th anniversary of their acclaimed 2004 album How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb, the band is not solely focused on nostalgia. Recently, guitarist the Edge appeared on Jo Wiley’s show on BBC Radio 2, offering insights into both their commemorative efforts and new musical projects.
Significantly, U2’s drummer, Larry Mullen Jr., who had to sit out the band’s recent Sphere residency due to health concerns, is making a return to the studio:
“We’re at that great phase where we don’t have to overthink it, we’re just making music and enjoying the process. There are a couple of different projects underway. It’s wonderful to have Larry back in the studio. He’s taking it easy, but he’s back behind the drums and doing some recording with us, and we plan to continue this momentum before the year ends,” the Edge explained.
In addition to U2’s band dynamics, the Edge shared intriguing details about a creative collaboration with frontman Bono and longtime associate Brian Eno. This collaboration is described as “sci-fi Irish folk music”:
“Bono and I are delving into this wild concept of sci-fi Irish folk music, which could possibly be incorporated into the new U2 album. We often begin by exploring diverse ideas and then find ways to shape them into a cohesive sound, which frequently leads to something unique,” the Edge noted. “With Brian Eno’s involvement and the contributions of many incredibly talented Irish musicians, we’re creating something truly special.”
The prospect of U2 and Brian Eno blending elements of science fiction with traditional Irish folk music is certainly intriguing, piquing the curiosity of fans as they await to experience this innovative sound.
