Ubisoft is reportedly in the process of developing a new battle royale game that draws significant inspiration from Respawn Entertainment’s popular title, Apex Legends.

In recent years, the battle royale genre has exploded in popularity, with titles such as Fortnite, H1Z1, and PUBG paving the way, followed closely by games like Warzone, Apex Legends, and Fall Guys.

While each game presents its own unique features, they generally share a common premise: players drop into an arena, gather resources, engage enemies, and compete to be the last player or team remaining.

Apex Legends distinguishes itself through its characters, known as legends, each equipped with unique abilities that players must leverage alongside their shooting skills to achieve victory. Success in Apex requires more than just marksmanship; it demands a strategic approach to character abilities and teamwork.

Ubisoft Aims to Attract Apex Legends Enthusiasts with New Title

Despite the success of Apex Legends, few developers have attempted to replicate its distinctive gameplay mechanics. However, recent reports from Insider Gaming suggest that this may soon change.

According to a report by Tom Henderson dated April 16, Ubisoft is currently developing a battle royale game under the codename ‘Scout’, which is described as being “heavily inspired” by Apex Legends. The new title is expected to introduce characters reminiscent of Apex’s Pathfinder, Wraith, and Lifeline.

Furthermore, Henderson notes that Ubisoft is keen to “capitalize on the decline in player count” that Apex Legends has experienced over the past year.

It has been observed that Apex Legends has indeed seen a reduction in its active player base, driven in part by community feedback regarding a dearth of new content. Players have voiced their concerns over unresolved issues that continue to impact their gaming experience.

There has also been discontent regarding a perceived shift towards microtransactions, particularly following the introduction of a premium battle pass by Respawn and EA. Initially, there were concerns that Apex Coins might not be usable for purchasing it, though this decision was reversed in response to player backlash.

In an effort to regain player interest, Respawn has implemented several adjustments, including enhancements to almost every character and weapon available in the game.

With the launch of Season 25 of Apex Legends on the horizon, the community awaits to see how the developers plan to rejuvenate the game and entice players back into the fold.
