Udit Narayan, a celebrated playback singer, has found himself at the center of controversy following the emergence of a video showing him kissing female fans during a recent concert. The footage, which rapidly gained traction on social media platforms, depicts Narayan performing the popular song “Tip Tip Barsa Paani” while fans approached him for photographs. In the clips, he is seen kissing them on the lips after capturing the moments with selfies.
During an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Udit Narayan addressed the criticism head-on, asserting that he feels no shame over his actions. “Have I (ever) done anything to bring shame to myself, my family or my country? Then why would I do something now at this stage of my life when I have achieved it all?” he stated. He emphasized the profound connection he shares with his fans, describing the interactions in the video as a genuine expression of love. “What you saw in the so-called scandalous video was a manifestation of the love between my fans and I. They love me. I love them back even more,” he added.
Narayan further elaborated on his perspective, stating that he is devoid of any embarrassment or remorse regarding the incident. “No, not at all! Why should I be? Do you hear any regret or sorrow in my voice? In fact, I am laughing as I talk to you,” he noted. He characterized his display of affection as innocent and publicly witnessed, suggesting that any attempt to portray it negatively reflects more on the observers than himself. “My heart is pure. If some people want to see something dirty in my act of pure affection, then I feel sorry for them. I also want to thank them. Because now they’ve made me even more famous than I already was,” he remarked with a touch of humor.
In addition to addressing the controversy, Narayan expressed his aspirations for receiving the prestigious Bharat Ratna award. Citing his accolades, including multiple Filmfare Awards and the Padma Bhushan, he affirmed his dedication to achieving this honor, much like his idol, Lata Mangeshkar. “She is my idol. Do you know I was her favourite co-singer among the singers of my generation? I have sung the maximum duets with her from my generation of singers,” he shared. Narayan concluded by reaffirming his commitment to his craft and belief that success should be celebrated, despite any detractors. “When I have Mata Saraswati’s blessings, what do I care about people who cannot bear to see others succeed?” he stated emphatically.
