UK Secures Hosting Rights for 2035 Women’s World Cup

The announcement recently made by FIFA President Gianni Infantino has confirmed that the United Kingdom will be the exclusive host for the 2035 Women’s World Cup. This decision comes after the UK was identified as the only legitimate bidder for the tournament.

In March, England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland presented a collaborative expression of interest to host the prestigious event across all four home nations. This joint approach reflects a united front in promoting women’s football and underscores the growing passion for the sport within the UK.

According to FIFA’s rotation regulations, future tournaments are required to be held in Europe or Africa. Previously, Spain’s football federation hinted at a potential joint bid with Portugal and Morocco. However, the critical deadline for submitting expressions of interest recently passed, leaving the UK’s bid standing as the sole submission for 2035. Meanwhile, the United States is set to organize the Women’s World Cup in 2031.

During a UEFA congress in Belgrade, Infantino elaborated on the bidding process, stating, “Today I can confirm as part of the bidding process that we received one bid for 2031 and one valid bid for 2035.” He highlighted that the 2031 edition will take place in the United States, along with potential participation from other members of the CONCACAF region, while the 2035 tournament is confirmed for Europe, specifically the UK.

Infantino expressed optimism about the future of women’s football, emphasizing that “the path is there for the Women’s World Cup in 2031 and 2035 to take place in some great nations and further boost the women’s football movement.” This sentiment reflects a growing trend towards elevating women’s sports on the global stage, promising greater visibility and support for female athletes.
