A charity established by former Prime Minister Gordon Brown is set to amplify its efforts in combating child hygiene poverty throughout this year.

The Multibank, initiated by Brown, is collaborating with various sports clubs across the United Kingdom along with the Hygiene Bank charity. During the recent holiday season, the initiative successfully collected thousands of hygiene products at sporting events.

Fresh momentum for the campaign was introduced on Monday with Amazon announcing a commitment to donate 250,000 hygiene products to the charity by the close of the month. This initiative stems from a survey conducted by the Hygiene Bank, which revealed that many teachers are using their own funds to support students experiencing hygiene poverty at their schools.

Brown commented, “Thanks to the immense generosity of sports fans, many children are able to return to school this week feeling more at ease in their own skin and ready to engage in the classroom with essentials like soap, shampoo, toothpaste, and deodorant. This support enables their families to maintain cleanliness.”

He further noted, “Last month’s inspirational donation drive by sports enthusiasts ensures that this month, children can attend school feeling and smelling clean, which is crucial for their social engagement. Looking ahead to 2025, there’s much more we can accomplish to assist them.”

Expressing gratitude, Brown stated, “I’m thrilled that Amazon, whose excess stock has become a vital part of the Multibank supplies, is launching a collaborative effort with hygiene product companies to boost the availability of these essential items at our multibanks. I extend my appreciation to all participating companies.”

He added, “We are aware that multibanks are truly helping families under pressure to envision brighter days ahead. It is imperative that we continue to innovate in our charitable approaches within our communities, as there are too many children currently in need of support. Teachers have communicated to us that ensuring children remain clean and presentable is a top priority.”

John Boumphrey, the UK country manager for Amazon, remarked, “We take great pride in having supported the establishment and growth of the Multibank network. It has been heartening to witness the support from sports fans toward the hygiene poverty initiative, benefiting those most vulnerable in our communities.”

He continued, “Our aim is to sustain this momentum, and by partnering with our suppliers and customers, we aspire to generate hundreds of thousands more donations to mitigate the impacts of hygiene poverty.”
