Pa Salieu Released from Prison After Serving 21 Months
British rapper Pa Salieu has been released after serving approximately 21 months of a 33-month sentence related to a violent incident from 2018. His representative confirmed his release to Pitchfork, and Salieu took to social media to express his return, stating, “I been gone for a while but I still made it back to you .”
The case stems from a confrontation outside the Club M in Coventry, where Salieu was involved in a fight following the tragic stabbing of his friend, Fidel “AP” Glasgow. Glasgow, who was only 21 at the time, was the grandson of musician Neville Staple from the band Specials. During the altercation, Salieu was convicted of attacking a 23-year-old man with a bottle and a tree branch. While Salieu was one of the eleven individuals sentenced due to the incident, no one has yet faced charges for Glasgow’s murder. At the time of the fight, Salieu was 21, and he received his sentence at the age of 25. Notably, he had previously been given a suspended sentence in 2015 for knife possession.
Salieu made a significant impression in the music scene with his debut album, Send Them to Coventry, which was released in 2020, followed by the Afrikan Rebel EP in 2021. He has collaborated with prominent artists such as FKA twigs, Ibeyi, Aitch, and Mura Masa, expanding his reach and influence in the industry. His work earned him a nomination for the Rising Star Award at the 2021 BRIT Awards. That same year, he marked his U.S. television debut with a performance of “Frontline” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
Fans of Salieu can also catch his guest appearance on FKA twigs’ track “Honda,” featured in various highlights including “The 43 Best Rap Songs of 2022.”
