Understanding Crossplay in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6

Cross-platform gaming has become a staple in the multiplayer experience of many popular titles, and its functionality continues to evolve. This raises the question: how will crossplay operate in the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 6?

The concept of crossplay gained significant traction with the rise of Fortnite in 2018, allowing players from various platforms—PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and others—to compete against one another seamlessly. This feature has since become more prevalent in other games, including the Call of Duty franchise, which first introduced crossplay capabilities in Modern Warfare (2019).

As anticipation builds for Black Ops 6, players are curious about whether the crossplay mechanics will see any changes. Here’s what has been confirmed about the game’s crossplay features.

Will Crossplay Be Available in Black Ops 6?

Indeed, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will include cross-platform play. As a standard feature in contemporary gaming, this will enable players to collaborate with friends regardless of the gaming platform they use.

To simplify the process of connecting with friends across different platforms, players can add one another using their Activision ID. By going to the Social tab, selecting ‘Add Friends’, and entering the respective Activision ID, players can easily notify their friends. Once accepted, these friends will appear in your Friends List, although platform-specific communication tools, such as Xbox or PlayStation Party Chat, won’t be available.

Disabling Crossplay in Black Ops 6

For various reasons, some players may choose to disable crossplay when engaging in multiplayer mode. A common concern among console users is the potential for encountering hackers on PC. Fortunately, the process to turn off crossplay is straightforward:

  • Launch Black Ops 6 multiplayer.
  • Access ‘Settings’.
  • Navigate to ‘Account & Network’.
  • Locate the Crossplay option and toggle it to ‘Off’.

However, it’s important to keep in mind that switching off crossplay not only stops encounters with PC players but also blocks gameplay with users on other platforms. Therefore, if you’re playing on Xbox, you won’t be able to team up with friends on PlayStation.

Looking Ahead

While Black Ops 6 is yet to be released as of this writing, players can already begin preloading the game across all platforms. This readiness reflects the ongoing excitement surrounding the latest installment in the Call of Duty series and the advancements in multiplayer gaming.
