United Airlines Flight Diverts to Newark Due to Mechanical Issue
NEWARK, New Jersey — A United Airlines flight originally destined for Puerto Rico had to make an unscheduled landing at Newark Liberty International Airport on Saturday morning, as reported by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The aircraft, designated as Flight 2143, successfully landed at Newark around 11:40 a.m. after the captain informed authorities of a potential mechanical problem. This information was confirmed by an FAA representative.
The Boeing 767-400 had departed from Newark at 9:48 a.m., intending to reach San Juan, Puerto Rico, before the decision was made to return to Newark. A spokesperson for the Port Authority provided details about the incident during a statement.
Fortunately, the landing was executed without any complications, and the aircraft was able to taxi to the gate on its own, as stated by the Port Authority.
Upon arrival back at the airport, all 230 passengers, along with 9 crew members, disembarked safely. A representative from United Airlines confirmed that they are cooperating with the FAA investigation regarding this incident.
In an official statement, United Airlines expressed:
“United flight 2143 from New York/Newark to San Juan, Puerto Rico returned to New York/Newark due to a mechanical issue. The aircraft landed safely and customers deplaned normally at the gate. We’ve arranged for a new aircraft to fly customers to their destination later today.”
