“Saturday Night Live” Takes Aim at Trump’s Cabinet Picks

During its latest episode, the Weekend Update segment of “Saturday Night Live” scrutinized the recent nominations made by Donald Trump for his upcoming administration. Among the notable figures highlighted was Elon Musk, known for his leadership roles at SpaceX and Tesla, who has been chosen to oversee the new Department of Government Efficiency taskforce. This initiative aims to streamline governmental processes by reducing bureaucracy, cutting unnecessary regulations, and overhauling federal agencies, according to the President-elect.

Anchor Michael Che pointed out Musk’s job postings for the taskforce, which intriguingly called for employees willing to work “80-plus hours per week for no money.”

Che jested, “One shouldn’t be shocked that the white African guy’s initial thought is akin to slavery.”

Co-anchor Colin Jost also chimed in with some biting humor, targeting Matt Gaetz—Trump’s nominee for attorney general—who has faced serious allegations, including a sex trafficking investigation that ultimately did not result in charges. Gaetz, who recently stepped down from Congress, was the subject of Jost’s sharp remarks. “Trump nominated Gaetz, and Gaetz responded similarly to how he might when encountering a teenage girl: I’ll do it,” Jost quipped, provoking a mixed reaction from the audience. He continued with, “Gaetz, who appears to be the result of a bizarre union, was selected for attorney general after Trump recalled that his first choice had been found dead in a jail cell,” referencing the controversial suicide of financier Jeffrey Epstein.

Later in the segment, Jost humorously congratulated Robert F. Kennedy Jr., presenting him as the “first brain worm survivor” nominated for a cabinet position. Kennedy, known for his controversial views on vaccinations, will take the helm at the Department of Health and Human Services. Jost remarked on Kennedy’s lack of experience but suggested giving him a chance, saying, “His skin appears to be cooked to a perfect medium rare.”

In an added twist, Charli XCX served as both the host and musical guest for this episode of “Saturday Night Live.”
