Current estimates from the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) indicate that as many as 75,000 individuals remain trapped in the northern regions of the Gaza Strip.
UNRWA reported on social media that these people have endured increasingly dire living conditions for more than 50 days.
The UN agency noted that the localities of Jabalia, Beit Lahia, and Beit Hanoun have been largely inaccessible to humanitarian support for weeks due to intense ongoing conflict.
Since the escalation began on October 6, UNRWA has made 91 attempts to deliver aid to these hard-hit areas. However, 82 of those efforts were completely rebuffed, with another 9 facing significant obstacles.
In response to these developments, a spokesperson for the Israeli military has stated that they are currently reviewing these claims.
Recently, Israel has initiated additional crossing points into Gaza to facilitate the flow of humanitarian aid.
This move is part of Israel’s broader campaign aimed at dismantling Hamas following the group’s unprecedented attack on October 7, 2023, which resulted in significant casualties and chaos along its border.
Israeli officials have accused Hamas of deliberately positioning themselves among civilian populations and obstructing aid deliveries intended for those in need.
