‘Doing Great’ After ACL Tear
… USC Coach Says

According to Lindsay Gottlieb, the head coach of the USC Trojans, star player JuJu Watkins is making a positive recovery following her recent ACL tear. In a statement to TMZ Sports, Gottlieb expressed confidence in Watkins’ rehabilitation process, stating that the 19-year-old athlete is “doing great” and has approached her recovery with determination and focus.
Watkins suffered the injury on March 24 during an NCAA tournament game, raising concerns about her return to the court. However, Gottlieb reassured fans that Watkins is already showing encouraging signs in her rehabilitation. The coach emphasized that while the recovery from a torn ACL typically takes about 12 months, they will prioritize Watkins’ health and not rush her back into play.
Despite the timeline, Gottlieb indicated optimism that Watkins might still be able to participate in next year’s March Madness, noting the excitement surrounding the team’s potential for the upcoming season. “Everyone’s excited about the program and the team we’ve built, and we’ll be back,” she affirmed.
The Trojans, however, will face challenges in the upcoming season as they will also be without standout players Kiki Iriafen and Rayah Marshall, both of whom were drafted into the WNBA just recently. This loss could significantly impact the team’s prospects for returning to the NCAA tournament.
Nonetheless, Gottlieb expressed enthusiasm for her players’ futures, acknowledging the emotional rewards of watching Iriafen and Marshall achieve their professional dreams, even if it means they won’t be playing for her team next season. She shared her simple advice for them as they transition to professional training camps: to “be themselves.” This, she believes, will be crucial as they embark on their next chapter in basketball.
