If you’ve bought beef sticks recently for a convenient snack, it’s wise to take a moment to inspect your pantry.

On Thursday, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced the recall of over 29,000 pounds of Chomps ready-to-eat beef sticks, produced by Idaho Smokehouse Partners. The concern arises from potential contamination with a foreign material, specifically metal.

The recall pertains to the Chomps Beef Sticks produced between January 13 and January 15, 2025. Affected products are packaged in 1.15-ounce vacuum-sealed bags labeled “Chomps Original Beef Sticks Mild,” with an expiration date of February 10, 2026.

Details from the recall indicate the lot code for the affected items is 25016, and the establishment number is 6220A, both located on the packaging. Distribution was extensive, with the product reaching retail outlets in California and Illinois.

This issue came to light after the manufacturer reported to the FSIS that it had received consumer complaints about metal fragments found in the beef sticks. Fortunately, there have been no confirmed reports of injury associated with this product. However, the FSIS advises anyone who suspects they might have ingested a foreign object to seek advice from their healthcare provider.

Despite the product potentially being off store shelves, it might still be in consumers’ homes. Thus, the FSIS is issuing this recall notification as a precaution. They recommend that individuals who may have purchased the affected sticks check their supplies and either dispose of them or return them to the retailer. For further inquiries regarding the recall, customers can reach out directly to Idaho Smokehouse Partners at 208-227-5282.

This incident follows another recent recall issued on March 13 by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), affecting 197,808 cans (or 8,242 cases) of Good & Gather Cut Green Beans due to possible contamination with a “foreign object,” the specifics of which were not disclosed. Customers of these beans are also advised to consider returning or discarding the product.
