Utah Man Arrested After High-Speed Road Rage Incident Involving Tesla
A dramatic freeway encounter in Utah has resulted in the arrest of a 27-year-old man, Oscar Fayani, who is accused of attempting to force a Tesla off the road during a reckless, high-speed chase. Police describe this incident as a calculated and hazardous act of road rage.
The Utah Highway Patrol reported that Fayani was apprehended early Friday morning after allegedly colliding with a Tesla while driving at speeds exceeding 100 mph on Interstate 80. This information comes from an affidavit acquired by KSL.com.
Authorities were alerted just after 10 a.m. when several 911 callers reported a gold sedan exhibiting erratic driving behavior, enabling multiple dangerous interactions with a black Tesla.
Witnesses indicated that the sedan was erratically weaving through traffic, tailgating, and blocking other vehicles while reaching speeds as high as 120 mph.
Charged with Multiple Offenses
An affidavit cited one driver who claimed they had to accelerate to 95 mph in an effort to escape Fayani’s aggressive driving. The Tesla driver recounted how the gold sedan intentionally rammed into his vehicle and pursued him even after he exited the freeway to evade the situation.
Upon returning to I-80 minutes later, the Tesla operator noted that Fayani’s vehicle was waiting and once again attempted to force him off the road.
Troopers eventually located Fayani’s vehicle near the Great Saltair and initiated a stop. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that Fayani was operating the vehicle with a revoked license and had two active warrants from outside the area.
Upon searching his vehicle, troopers found items such as drug paraphernalia, a marijuana roller, and two small baggies containing a white powder substance that later tested positive for cocaine.
Ongoing Trends of Hostility Towards Tesla Owners
Fayani has since been booked into the Tooele County Jail, facing a range of charges including aggravated assault—which may include a road rage enhancement—reckless driving, driving on a revoked license, possession of drug paraphernalia, and violation of two out-of-area warrants. His bond has been set at $910.
This arrest occurs amidst a troubling trend of hostility directed at Tesla owners and the company itself. There have been numerous reports of vandalism, harassment, and aggressive behavior towards Tesla vehicles and their drivers.
Drivers of Tesla vehicles have frequently encountered harassment known as “ICEing,” where gasoline-powered cars block access to charging stations. Additionally, incidents of vandalism have been captured by Teslas equipped with Sentry Mode cameras, showcasing acts of keying, window smashing, and slashed tires.
Moreover, there has been a notable rise in vandalism incidents at Tesla dealerships throughout the United States. For example, in March 2025, a dealership in Buffalo Grove, Illinois, was defaced with graffiti that mocked both former President Donald Trump and Elon Musk. In another incident, five Teslas were set ablaze and shot at a repair center in Las Vegas, which police are treating as a “targeted attack.” Furthermore, a college student in Kansas City was charged with firebombing a Tesla dealership, damaging multiple vehicles.
Additionally, a person in Loveland, Colorado was arrested for launching Molotov cocktails at a Tesla dealership and spray-painting derogatory messages targeting Elon Musk, leading to substantial property damage estimated at approximately $220,000.
Similar acts of vandalism and politically charged graffiti have been reported across various states, including California, Texas, and New York.
At this time, the Tooele County Police Department has not responded to inquiries regarding the ongoing situation.
