The current outrage has put Abir Gulaal’s future in jeopardy, and the backlash appears to be spilling over to Vaani Kapoor’s other films.

Bollywood actress Vaani Kapoor is under significant fire online for endorsing her forthcoming film, Abir Gulaal, featuring Pakistani actor Fawad Khan. This criticism comes amidst national mourning following the tragic Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu & Kashmir.
Despite the unfortunate incident that claimed the lives of innocent tourists, Kapoor has not publicly addressed or condemned the attack. Instead, she finds herself trending on various social media platforms with hashtags such as #BoycottVaaniKapoor and #BoycottAbirGulaal. Many users have labeled her as insensitive and unpatriotic for continuing to promote the film, deeming her actions as a betrayal to the nation.
On multiple occasions, including events on April 19 and 21, Kapoor actively participated in promotional activities for Abir Gulaal. She was seen commending her co-star during a live Instagram interaction and even made a promotional post on Tuesday, which has since been removed from her social media account.
The backlash has intensified following the recent attack, where numerous comments have emerged, including one user expressing, “Shame on these low-life people who dance on people’s graves,” and another stating, “You betrayed our nation, Vaani.”
This situation is not entirely new for Abir Gulaal. Earlier, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) warned that it would oppose the film’s release in the state due to Fawad Khan’s involvement. Khan, who previously appeared in notable Bollywood films from the last decade, has largely stayed away from the industry in recent years, partly due to the prevailing tensions between India and Pakistan.
The escalating outrage over Abir Gulaal raises concerns about the film’s prospects, with the backlash now extending to Vaani Kapoor’s other cinematic ventures. Many users have threatened to boycott her upcoming projects, including Raid 2, set to release on May 1, featuring Ajay Devgn.
