Vasan Bala Playfully Suggests Rajkummar Rao’s Italian Doppelgänger
Filmmaker Vasan Bala has humorously suggested that Bollywood actor Rajkummar Rao might be leading a double life as Italian actor Giuseppe Maggio.
Bala’s observation was sparked by a poster from the French film ‘Being Maria’ directed by Jessica Palud, which prominently features Maggio. Upon seeing the poster, the director made a light-hearted comment regarding the uncanny resemblance between Rao and Maggio. In a humorous twist, he jested about Rao’s potential acting career in Italy. The banter continued when Rao responded, indicating playful interest in collaborating on a remake of the acclaimed Italian film ‘Life Is Beautiful.’
On Saturday, Vasan Bala shared the poster of ‘Being Maria’ via his Instagram stories and playfully captioned it, “Rajkummar Rao living a double life as an Italian actor.” Rao did not miss the chance to join in on the joke; he re-shared the story and suggested, “Hahahaha Vasan Bala let’s make life is beautiful,” adding a red heart emoji for a dose of charm. The exchange highlights their camaraderie and light-hearted rapport.
Rajkummar Rao and Vasan Bala have previously collaborated on the 2022 neo-noir thriller ‘Monica, O My Darling,’ which was well-received upon its release on Netflix. The film featured a strong cast, including Huma Qureshi and Radhika Apte, and drew praise for its engaging storyline and compelling performances, inspired by a 1989 Japanese novel by Keigo Higashino.
Looking ahead, Rao is set to star in the romantic comedy ‘Bhool Chuk Maaf,’ alongside Wamiqa Gabbi. The film’s teaser, released in February, has generated considerable excitement, and it is scheduled to premiere in cinemas on May 9, 2025. ‘Bhool Chuk Maaf,’ directed and written by Karan Sharma, marks a new duo for Rao and Gabbi.
In addition to ‘Bhool Chuk Maaf,’ Rao has a gangster action thriller titled ‘Maalik’ in the works. Moreover, he and his wife, Patralekhaa, are venturing into production with a new Netflix comedy film titled ‘Toaster,’ further expanding their creative horizons in the film industry.
