Released on February 6, 2025, Magizh Thirumeni’s Vidaamuyarchi is an adaptation of the 1997 American thriller Breakdown. Data from industry tracking service Sacnilk reveals that the film garnered an impressive Rs 60.35 crore net across Indian theaters over its opening weekend.
On its opening day, Vidaamuyarchi amassed a staggering Rs 26 crore. The excitement saw a dip on the following day, with earnings dropping to Rs 10.25 crore on Friday, representing a 60.58 percent decline. Nevertheless, the film rebounded on Saturday, witnessing a 31.7 percent rise back to Rs 13.5 crore. By Sunday, the film further bolstered its total by clocking in Rs 10.6 crore.

Internationally, Vidaamuyarchi has surpassed Rs 92 crore in total earnings within just three days, with approximately Rs 32.30 crore contributed by foreign markets.
The plot revolves around a gripping narrative where the lead character embarks on a high-stakes adventure to rescue his wife from a perilous situation in Azerbaijan. This thrilling rescue mission keeps viewers engaged as the narrative unfolds with urgency and emotion.
A review by News18 highlighted, “Vidaamuyarchi delivers consistent entertainment despite its predictable storyline, a feat achieved through the deft direction of Magizh Thirumeni. The storytelling captivates the viewer, emphasizing the manner of presentation rather than solely the content itself, which aligns with conventional survival genre elements. The plot includes some expected twists, yet remains compelling. Action sequences, particularly one set in a moving car, are thrilling, accentuated by a creatively executed top-down camera angle. While the technical finesse of the film stands out, it occasionally veers towards a clinical execution that may render certain moments less authentic.”
