A cherished Netflix series has successfully transitioned to the Broadway stage, marking a significant milestone. Earlier this week, the Marquis Theatre buzzed with excitement as Stranger Things: The First Shadow, a prequel to the acclaimed series, held its opening night on Broadway.

Louis McCartney, who reprises his role as Henry Creel after performing in the West End, expressed his pride in the production. “I’m so proud of how far we’ve come. From the workshop days with characters like Henry Creel, Joyce, Hopper, and Bob, we’ve remained true to the essence of the show. We are immersing ourselves in the grounded mythology of Stranger Things, presenting a play that has never been seen before,” he shared, emphasizing the unique nature of this theatrical endeavor.

The narrative unfolds in 1959 Hawkins, Indiana, where the Creel family is attempting to start anew. Among them is Henry, a teenager eager to break free from his tumultuous past. His early days in the town seem promising, as he makes friends and takes part in the school play. However, a sudden wave of unsettling crimes forces him to face a chilling reality: is there a connection between him and the mystical horrors that plague the town?

T.R. Knight, reflecting on the creative process, remarked, “This journey has been filled with firsts and substantial learning opportunities, transitioning from the rehearsal stage to nearly nine weeks of technical preparations. It’s a massive production.” He continued, “While the show is officially fixed, I am excited about the prospects of growth and understanding the complexities of this deeply flawed character.”
