Recent footage from security cameras has revealed the actions of a woman accused of evading airport security and boarding a Delta Air Lines flight that was bound for France.
Svetlana Dali reportedly boarded Delta Flight 264 at New York’s JFK International Airport on November 26 without a valid ticket, according to prosecutors.
In a video obtained by CNN from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which manages the airport, Dali is seen walking through the security checkpoint, passing through a body scanner, and undergoing a pat-down while dressed in a tan shirt layered over a grey hoodie and jeans.
Reports indicate that she initially passed by an airport employee who was overseeing a checkpoint designated for crew members, avoiding the areas where her identification and boarding pass would typically be verified, as stated by a representative from the Transportation Security Administration.
At the boarding gate, she mingled with what seemed to be a family traveling together, further capitalizing on the lack of scrutiny.
A subsequent video shows Dali, now donning a jacket and carrying a backpack with her hoodie pulled over her head, as she accompanied the passenger group onto the jet bridge.
In light of the incident, Delta Air Lines acknowledged that a “deviation from standard procedures is the root cause of this event.”
After being returned to the United States and taken into custody, Dali was released shortly after initial charges were filed. However, in December, prosecutors reported that she had cut her ankle monitor and attempted to escape to Canada. Following this, she was re-arrested and has remained in custody in New York since that time.
Dali appeared in Brooklyn Federal Court on Tuesday, where her trial is slated to commence on May 19 with jury selection. The court has also noted that there may be opportunities for the involved parties to seek a resolution prior to the trial.
She has entered a plea of not guilty in response to the charges.
