Vidya Balan cautions fans about AI-generated deepfake videos, emphasizes the importance of verification. Rashmika Mandanna and Deepika Padukone among other victims.
Bollywood star Vidya Balan has recently raised alarms over the proliferation of AI-generated deepfake videos featuring her likeness on social media. As the technology continues to advance, Balan becomes yet another high-profile figure caught in the web of artificial intelligence misuse. She has called upon her fans and the general public to exercise caution and verify the authenticity of information before sharing any such multimedia content.
In the viral video, a synthetic version of Vidya Balan appears on a sofa greeting viewers with the words, “Hey, main hoon aap sabki favourite Vidya Balan…” Immediate action followed her discovery of the deepfake, as she posted the clip with a prominent “Scam Alert” notice to clearly indicate its fabricated nature.
In her message, she wrote, “There are several videos currently circulating on social media and WhatsApp, which seem to feature me. However, I want to clarify that these videos are generated by AI technology and are not authentic. I have no connection to their creation or distribution, nor do I endorse their content in any capacity.”
Balan added a crucial reminder, stating, “Any statements made in these videos should not be linked to me, as they do not reflect my personal views or professional output. I encourage everyone to verify information before passing it along and to be wary of misleading AI-generated media.”
This incident highlights a growing trend where celebrities become victims of digital deceit. Prior to Balan, actress Rashmika Mandanna experienced a similar ordeal when a manipulated clip of her surfaced online in a compromising situation. Other prominent personalities, including Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt, Katrina Kaif, Ranveer Singh, and cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar, have also been targets of deepfake technology.
In her professional life, Vidya Balan was last seen in “Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3,” which received a warm reception at the box office. Featuring notable actors like Kartik Aaryan and Madhuri Dixit, the film premiered during the Diwali season of 2024, reaffirming Balan’s status in the competitive film industry.
