Vikrant Massey Reflects on Personal Values and Family Diversity

Upcoming for actor Vikrant Massey is his role in Ekta Kapoor’s film ‘The Sabarmati Report’.

Having recently achieved success with the film 12th Fail, Vikrant Massey is now set to explore a gritty narrative in The Sabarmati Report, where he portrays a journalist on a quest to unveil the reality of the 2002 Godhra incident. The project, directed by Ranjan Chandel, features co-stars Raashi Khanna and Ridhi Dogra and is produced by notable figures including Shobha Kapoor, Amul V Mohan, Ektaa R Kapoor, and Anshul Mohan. With its release scheduled for November 15, the movie has already generated mixed reactions, particularly surrounding Vikrant’s involvement, which has led to criticisms regarding his stance on secularism.

In a revealing discussion with Shubhankar Mishra on the show Unplugged, Vikrant tackled the criticisms directed at him, questioning the motives behind the skepticism regarding his secular beliefs. “A truly secular person stands by others regardless of religion, caste, or background,” he stated, emphasizing that his core values remain steadfast amidst the often divisive environment of social media. He identifies as a liberal, favoring acceptance and diversity over extremist viewpoints.

When further discussing his interpretation of secularism, Vikrant described it as “living together and respecting each other’s culture while taking pride in your own.” He advocates for a nuanced understanding of societal issues rather than viewing them through a binary lens. His perspective on secularism centers around the idea of uplifting others without disparaging different beliefs or backgrounds.

Drawing from his personal life, Vikrant highlighted the diversity within his own family as a testament to his values. “My parents had an inter-caste marriage, so did I. My brother even converted to another religion. What could be more secular than that?” he asserted, using his family’s experiences to illustrate his commitment to pluralism.

During the interview, he reflected on his evolving perspective over time, stating, “Initially, I thought Hindus were in danger; now I do not believe that they are. I previously felt Muslims were threatened, and I no longer think that is the case.” This evolution in his views showcases a more comprehensive understanding of the complexities surrounding secularism in contemporary society.
