Vincent van der Voort Critiques Current Darts Landscape
Vincent van der Voort has voiced his concerns regarding the atmosphere on the PDC tour, notably expressing that “there are too many Luke Littler fanboys” among his former colleagues.
The Nuke has embarked on an impressive journey as he defends his Premier League Darts title, securing victories in four out of eight events, which has allowed him to hold the top position in the standings.
Having retired from competitive darts in early 2024, van der Voort specifically referenced recent matches involving Stephen Bunting and Nathan Aspinall, suggesting that their supportive demeanor towards the youthful talent Littler was excessive. He commented, “Every little thing, they’re giving him fist bumps or smiles,” indicating a desire for a more competitive edge among players.
Van der Voort is urging his peers to elevate their level of competitiveness in the Premier League and expressed confidence in his compatriot, Dirk van Duijvenbode, to embody that spirit. Currently ranked World No. 29, van Duijvenbode has yet to clinch a major ranking TV title and was not selected for the eight-player lineup of the upcoming 2025 Premier League season. However, van der Voort stated that he finds van Duijvenbode’s matches much more appealing.
“Compared to some of the players in [the Premier League] now, I’d much rather watch Dirk,” he remarked, emphasizing the energy and excitement that come with his gameplay. “There’s always something happening when he plays.”
According to van der Voort, many players tend to approach games with a demeanor akin to “the perfect son-in-law,” which he feels fails to create thrilling contests. He further criticized the current admiration for Littler, stating, “There are too many Littler fanboys right now, so it would be great to see Dirk in the mix. He steps up to compete against him and does everything to win.”
Looking Ahead in the Premier League
The Premier League action continues at the Uber Arena in Berlin on Thursday, April 3, with a much-anticipated match between Michael van Gerwen and Gerwyn Price, along with Luke Littler going up against Chris Dobey.
